...for a lovely vinyl listening session. But is it? Is your built-in phono stage as good as it could be? An external one may be just the boost in record playing performance you need
-

If your music system includes a turntable, a phono preamplifier is a must-have component in the chain. Also called a phono stage, this component is essential for the playback of vinyl records. It raises your cartridge's audio output to make it compatible with line-level amplifiers and delivers a sound you can hear through your hi-fi system. It also adds standardised equalisation to rebalance the cartridge's signal so it sounds even.
Many amps, turntables and active speakers now come with a phono stage built-in-but they may not provide the very best sound possible. Upgrading your system with an external phono stage is a great way to improve your turntable system's sound, giving you that extra performance kick to give your vinyl another layer of sonic depth.
We have a variety of models here at different price points - including phono stages that are compatible with both moving magnet and moving-coil cartridges - from hi-fi stalwarts such as Rega, Pro-Ject, Cambridge Audio, Chord, Vertere and more. We're sure you'll find something here that is right for you, and that will take your vinyl listening to the next level.

A low-key restyle coupled to the same excellent performance

The second iteration of Rega's Fono Mini A2D looks a little cleaner than its forebear, its new glossy front panel better fitting in with the aesthetic of the brand's current range. But the important part of this phono stage, the audio circuitry, remains unchanged, and we are glad Rega has left it well alone. You see, the Rega Fono Mini A2D has always been something of a star performer at this level, and this Mk2 version continues to impress.
