GOOGLE'S IOS APP INTRODUCES SIMPLIFY FEATURE TO CLARIFY COMPLEX TEXT
Techlife News
|May 10, 2025
Google has launched a new feature called Simplify for its iOS app, enabling users to transform complex or technical web text into clearer, more understandable language using artificial intelligence, as announced this week.
-
The tool, powered by the Gemini Al model and developed by Google Research, allows iPhone users to highlight jargon-heavy text on a webpage within the app and generate a simplified version without leaving the page.
For students, professionals, and casual readers, Simplify addresses the challenge of deciphering dense content, making information more accessible across fields like medicine, law, and technology.
To use Simplify, users select text on a webpage in the Google app and tap a “Simplify” icon, prompting a pop-up with a rephrased, digestible explanation that retains key details. Google's testing showed that simplified text improved user comprehension and retention compared to original content, as reported in a company blog post.
The feature, rolling out to iOS users this week, is currently exclusive to the Google app's built-in browser, with no immediate plans for Android or desktop Chrome versions, according to a Google spokesperson.
SIMPLIFY FEATURE FUNCTIONALITYSimplify enables users to highlight any text on a webpage viewed in the Google app's browser, such as medical journals or legal documents, and tap a “Simplify” icon from the menu.
A pop-up window displays a rephrased version of the selected text, breaking down breaking down terms like “emphysema” (damage to lung air sacs) or “fibrosis” (lung tissue scarring) into plain language.

Tesla beat Wall Street's first-quarter profit expectations, but the stock still fell as investors focused less on the quarter itself and more on what comes next: a much larger capital spending plan, a costlier push into Al and robotics, and a notably more restrained tone from Elon Musk about how quickly those bets will pay off.
