With its 'Grand Theft Auto meets Star Wars' vibe, is the open world of Outlaws the Han Solo simulator fans have been dreaming of for decades... or one space opera instalment too far?

Set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, this latest Star Wars game casts you as Kay Vess, a young hacker who finds herself wanted-along with adorable critter sidekick Nix - by the galaxy's most ruthless crime syndicate. You start out by taking on odd jobs in the underworld, but things kick up a notch when Kay is recruited for what's billed as the heist of a lifetime.
First you must gather your team, which is a good excuse to visit the jungles of Akiva and lose yourself in Mos Eisley. But while the ragtag recruits make for an intriguing crew (even if the best of the bunch, a battle droid called ND-5, is disappointingly under-utilised). the game's facial animations feel sorely lacking compared to other current-gen releases. So you rely more on Nix, who distracts enemies and picks up items for you, like a furry remote-hacking device. The only problem is, commanding Nix is often quite fiddly, so unless it was unavoidable I often ignored the prompts and did it all myself.
