Brother's first attempt at a refillable inkjet for the UK market, and it's very nearly a killer debut SCORE 00000 PRICE £208 (£249 inc VAT) from ballicom.co.uk U ntil recently, if UK buyers wanted a refillable ink tank printer, they could get one from HP, Epson or Canon, but not Brother. That's changed with the launch of the DCP-T780DW, and its cheaper sibling the DCP-T580DW.
Both are inkjet MFPs, aimed at home and small office users. While the DCP-T580DW is relatively basic, the DCP-T780DW we're reviewing here has a decent specification, including a 20-sheet ADF on top.
If your first reaction is to ask why a relatively humble home inkjet commands a £200 price tag, welcome to the world of refillable printers.
Here you'll find reasonably priced ink in generous bottles, delivering unrivalled low running costs. The flip side is that you need to pay more up front for the printer itself.
Opinions differ on whether that's a good deal, but we're firmly in favour - it's a more transparent model that cuts down on plastic waste and can offer a cheaper total cost of ownership.
The DCP-T780DW is quite competitively priced for an ink tank printer. It comes with a 150-sheet input tray, a push-button control panel enhanced with a colour screen, and support for wireless networks.
