The Linux Foundation, in collaboration with the Open Source Security Foundation (OpenSSF) and Linux Foundation Education, has released the Cybersecurity Skills Framework—a global reference designed to help organisations identify and strengthen key cybersecurity competencies across a broad range of IT roles, not just among cybersecurity specialists.

As cyber threats become more complex and widespread, many enterprises struggle to align job roles with the practical skills required to effectively defend their systems. Despite cybersecurity ranking among the top three most in-demand tech roles, significant talent gaps persist. According to the Linux Foundation’s 2024 State of Tech Talent Report, 64% of organisations report that candidates lack essential skills, with the average time to hire and onboard new technical staff stretching to 10.2 months.
