NEURALINK'S $650 MILLION FUNDRAISE FUELS AMBITIOUS BRAIN-COMPUTER VISION

In a dimly lit lab in Austin, a patient with paralysis moves a cursor across a screen using only their thoughts, a quiet triumph for Elon Musk's Neuralink.
-
The brain-computer interface (BCI) startup announced it raised $650 million in a Series E funding round, a cash infusion that could accelerate its mission to merge human brains with artificial intelligence.
Led by investors like ARK Invest and Sequoia Capital, the funding values Neuralink at $9 billion pre-money, nearly tripling its 2023 valuation of $3.5 billion.
With five patients already controlling devices via brain implants, Neuralink’s progress is undeniable, yet its path to commercializing vision-restoring and speech-enabling technologies faces hurdles.
A FINANCIAL BOOST FOR A BOLD MISSIONNeuralink’s $650 million raise, announced on June 2, 2025, marks its largest funding round to date, dwarfing the $600 million secured in May at a $9 billion pre-money valuation. Investors including Founders Fund, Thrive Capital, Lightspeed Venture Partners, and G42 joined the round, betting on Neuralink’s potential to revolutionize medical and cognitive technologies.
The funds will expand clinical trials for its Telepathy implant, develop new devices like the vision-restoring Blindsight, and bring the technology to more patients.
The company’s valuation surge reflects its progress since 2023, when it was valued at $5 billion based on private stock trades, and $3.5 billion by PitchBook.
Neuralink’s ability to attract $650 million, exceeding its April 2025 target of $500 million at an $8.5 billion valuation, underscores investor confidence.
For U.S. stakeholders, this capital injection positions Neuralink to compete in a $400 billion BCI market, but it also raises questions about the startup’s ability to deliver on Musk’s lofty promises.
