The milestone, reported in the latest data from Counterpoint Research, underscores Apple's growing influence in one of the world's fastest-expanding mobile economies. India has now become the third-largest iPhone market globally by shipment volume, following the United States and China.

The figures highlight the shifting dynamics of the premium smartphone segment in India, where Apple's sustained focus on retail presence, manufacturing expansion, and financing programs has helped the company reach record local sales. The growth arrives amid a broader slowdown in global smartphone demand, underscoring how India’s maturing consumer base continues to play an outsized role in Apple’s long-term market strategy.

INDIA’S PREMIUM MARKET MOMENTUM

Counterpoint’s report indicates that India’s premium smartphone category—defined as devices priced above $600—grew 44 percent year-over-year in the last quarter, with Apple leading that segment by a significant margin. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 14 series together accounted for most of the company’s sales, followed by sustained demand for the iPhone 13, which remains popular through local retail channels.
