Apple unveiled new on-device artificial intelligence features for developers at WWDC 2025, introducing the Foundation Models framework to integrate powerful AI capabilities into apps for iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple Vision Pro.

APPLE ANNOUNCES ON-DEVICE AI FEATURES FOR DEVELOPERS

The framework provides direct access to Apple's on-device large language model, enabling private, offline intelligence for enhanced user experiences.

NEW FOUNDATION MODELS FRAMEWORK ENABLES INTELLIGENT APP EXPERIENCES

The Foundation Models framework allows developers to tap into a 3-billion-parameter, 2-bit quantized large language model running on-device, supporting tasks like text extraction, summarization, structured data response, and tool calling. Native Swift support enables integration with as few as three lines of code, making it accessible for developers to build intelligent features. The framework ensures privacy by processing data locally, eliminating the need for internet connectivity, and supports guided generation to deliver precise, context-aware responses. Developers can use the framework to create apps that summarize text, extract data from images, or automate tasks, enhancing functionality across Apple's platforms.

XCODE 26 AI ENHANCEMENTS

Xcode 26 introduces Al-powered Coding Tools, leveraging large language models, including ChatGPT, to offer code suggestions, error detection, and autocompletion. These tools streamline development by identifying potential bugs and proposing optimized code, improving efficiency for developers building apps with Apple Intelligence features. The integration of ChatGPT into Xcode provides additional expertise for complex coding tasks, with user consent required before sharing data, aligning with Apple's privacy standards.
