AMAZON PRIME AIR DRONES NOW FLY IPHONES AND AIRTAGS TO YOUR DOOR
AppleMagazine
|May 23, 2025
Picture this: you're rushing to replace a lost AirTag before a trip, place an order on Amazon, and within an hour, a drone hums overhead, dropping the tiny tracker right in your backyard.
-
That's the reality Amazon rolled out earlier this week, expanding its Prime Air drone delivery service to include Apple's iPhones, AirTags, and AirPods, alongside Samsung Galaxy phones and Ring doorbells, for customers in select U.S. cities.
For shoppers, retailers, and logistics innovators, this leap forward in Amazon's decade-long drone project brings lightning-fast delivery to a $1.5 trillion e-commerce market where every minute counts.
The service, powered by Amazon's advanced MK30 drones, zips packages to doorsteps in College Station, Texas, and Tolleson, Arizona, covering over 60,000 eligible items up to five pounds.
With Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval to carry lithium-ion battery-powered electronics, Prime Air is reshaping same-day delivery, but noise complaints and past crashes raise questions about its path ahead.
A NEW ERA OF DRONE DELIVERY Amazon's Prime Air program now delivers high-demand electronics, including iPhones, AirTags, AirPods, Samsung Galaxy smartphones, Ring doorbells, and even Alpha Grillers instant-read thermometers, all weighing five pounds or less.
Customers in College Station, Texas, and Tolleson, Arizona, can opt for drone delivery at checkout via Amazon's website or app, selecting a drop-off spot like a driveway or yard. The service, which began in 2022, has expanded to cover over 60,000 eligible items, promising delivery in under an hour.
The FAA's approval to transport lithium-ion battery-powered devices marks a major milestone, overcoming years of regulatory hurdles that limited drone payloads.
Unlike earlier setups requiring QR codes for landing zones, the process is now seamless-customers confirm their drop-off spot, and the drone handles the rest, making tech deliveries faster than ever.
