Aldershot Town co-founder GRAHAM BROOKLAND tries to put into words his Wembley feeling

AS AN FA Council member representing the Army Football Association, I received an invitation to watch Non-League Finals Day from the Royal Box. It was a quick and polite refusal.
Supporters of Aldershot have waited a lifetime to see their team play at Wembley. This was a day for the fans. Our time. Our dream. Collar and tie swapped for shorts, “Alive and Kicking” T-Shirt and retro Aldershot shirt from the 70s.
To see close to 20,000 fans in red and blue take over London. To walk down Wembley Way was emotive. Exiled supporters travelled from as far afield as Saudi Arabia and Australia. A day of bumping into familiar faces from the past. Those who had played their part as players, officials, volunteers. Aldershot is a generational club. Families travelled - planes, trains and automobiles - to see if the dream could be realised.
