CAPTAIN Kyle Bennett insists Shifnal Town's historic promotion is every bit as meaningful as those he eamed in the EFL.
The 34-year-old midfielder might have enjoyed going up with Bury, Doncaster Rovers and Portsmouth during a professional career packed with more than 300 EFL games but his latest elevation has included an up-close-and-personal element that the others couldn't provide.
Bennett linked up with local side Shifnal in the summer of 2023 and proved an instant hit, leading by example with no fewer than 23 opposition man-of-the-match awards across two seasons.
The side faded last term but a summer recruitment drive by boss Connor Patterson added the required edge with the Midland League Premier Division runners-up seeing through the job in the play-offs, easing past 1874 Northwich 2-0 in the final.
“It has been a tough season up against some good teams,” Bennett told The NLP.
