Retro Gamer pays tribute to the recent gaming legends we've lost
-
Since we mentioned the sad passing of Team17 cofounder Martyn Brown in December of 2024, Retro Gamer has been made aware of other members of the games industry who are sadly no longer with us.
Regarding Martyn Brown, Team17 now has a dedicated tribute page to him, with contributions from a great number of Team17 staff, past and present, including current CEO Debbie Bestwick, head of design Kevin Carthew, designer John Eggett and many more. Former cofounder Andreas Tadic shared the following on the tribute page. “The sheer count of people and communities he has connected is unique. Same goes for the games and projects he has led from scratch to success.”
VGDensetsu recently reported on the passing of French composer Stéphane Picq after The Vahinée posted the news on its Facebook page. “It is with great sadness that we learned of Stéphane’s departure… A regular, a friend, a family member,” began the post. “He was one of those people who leave a mark, by their authenticity, their frankness and all those shared moments that will remain etched in our hearts.”
Stéphane created the soundtracks for a number of games, including Dune, Commander Blood, Lost Eden and MegaRace 1. Stéphane started working in the games industry from 1987, typically producing work for Cryo Interactive and ERE Informatique and eventually retired in 1998 when he moved to Madagascar. He went on to release some of his earlier soundtracks, including MegaRace 1 and Dune: Spice Opera. He died at the age of 59 after a long illness.

It's-a me, Pauline!
My daughter turned 16 this year, which means I've officially entered the stage of parenthood where anything I say is answered with eye-rolling. It also means I've been thinking a lot about when she was small - specifically the time she inadvertently sent me on one of the strangest, most meaningful missions of my life.
