HAL's strategic initiatives are reshaping the company into a heavyweight advanced technology solutions provider through the design, development, and manufacturing of both fixed-wing and rotary-wing platforms. -
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) stands on the cusp of a transformative era, marked by its entry into the elite league of Maharatna CPSEs (Central Public Sector Enterprise) in India and the first defence PSU to do so. As one of Asia's largest defence manufacturers, HAL has been providing a one-stop solution for the Indian Defence Services in the areas of design, development, manufacture, maintenance, repair, and overhaul of aircraft, helicopters, aero-engines, related accessories and avionics over the last eight decades.
HAL is bolstering India's defence capabilities through innovation and development of indigenous platforms, recognising the critical need to reduce dependency on foreign suppliers aligned with the national mission of Aatmanirbharta in Defence. HAL invests a significant portion of its revenues in R&D, contributing 8.25 per cent of its turnover (₹2,482 crores) for the FY 24-25. These strategic investments have resulted in the development of indigenous systems, components, and platforms. Additionally, HAL has established an indigenisation fund by allocating 3 per cent of its annual operating profit after tax.
HAL's strategic initiatives are transforming the company into an integrated provider of superior technology solutions through the indigenous design, development, and production of both fixed-wing and rotary-wing platforms. To align with the Indian Air Force's future strategic framework, HAL is focused on several key platforms that will bolster its airpower capabilities. Each of these platforms, including the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA), Hindustan Turbo Trainer (HTT-40), Light Combat Helicopter (LCH), Light Utility Helicopter (LUH), and Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH), plays a crucial role in reshaping India's aerial defence landscape. These major platform orders, currently under execution, are of indigenous origin, reflecting HAL's commitment to technological innovation and self-reliance.
