D K PANDEY highlights the strategic consequences of China - Pakistan collaborations in Bangladesh

South Asia is currently experiencing a geopolitical environment that is both dynamic and challenging as a result of the constantly shifting relationships among China, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. The relationships are characterised by deeper economic and defence aspirations and the resurfacing of historical grievances.
Global attention is being drawn to a series of strategic activities that are taking place in the region of the Indian subcontinent. Developments in Bangladesh, driven by the country's financial requirements and strategic considerations, are particularly significant in terms of shaping the future trends of power dynamics in the region and India's strategic responses.
The visit of Pakistan's ISI to Bangladesh, the interest of the Bangladesh Air Force in the JF-17 jet fighters, and plans to allow Chinese military facilities in Lalmonirhat, close to India's Chicken Neck area, indicate important changes in the way countries like Bangladesh and Pakistan are aligning themselves.
These actions are more than just working together on economic matters; they show that Bangladesh is open to forming partnerships in defence and security, that India might turn out to be a challenge to India’s position in the region.
Lalmonirhat Airport for Geopolitical Dynamics
Professor Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser of the Interim Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, visited Beijing from March 27 to 29, 2025. As Bangladesh reaffirmed its commitment to the one-China concept and its stance that the Government of the People's Republic of China is the only legal government representing all of China and that Taiwan is the inalienable part of China's territory, nine agreements were signed. Bangladesh clearly opposes "Taiwan independence".

INDIA'S CHINA CALCULUS AND THE POK QUESTION
India's strategic necessity in dealing with China and Pakistan is to compartmentalise challenges without diluting resolve. Improving relations with China should be an investment in bandwidth to settle the western question, and formalising the LoC as the international border with Pakistan remains the least risky path.
