Design & Build Quality

The OM SYSTEM 50-200mm F/2.8 IS PRO lens is very well made. The barrel is made of magnesium alloy for strength and durability. The lens mount is made from metal, and the lens is weather-sealed. The lens weighs 1250g with its tripod collar (1075g without the collar) and is made in Japan.

Key Features

The lens is designed using 21 elements in 13 groups that include 1 EDA (Extra-low Dispersion Aspherical), 2 Super ED, 1 ED, 2 HR (High Refractive-index), and 3 E-HR (Extra High Refractive-index) elements. To reduce flare and ghosting, the front element is coated with ZERO Coating II. It further has a fluorene coating to repel water and stains. The lens offers IP53-certified weather sealing. This allows you to use the lens in inclement weather. Two teleconverters are available: MC-14 (1.4x, light loss 1-stop) and MC-20 (2x, light loss 2-stops) that increase the equivalent focal length to 560mm and 800mm respectively.
