Emma Stephenson explains how to capture stunning seabird images late in the day

Emma is a neurodiverse hobbyist photographer. “I am a veterinary nurse who has had a passion for wildlife photography for about eight years now,” she says. “I love being outdoors in nature in my spare time, and I enjoy playing with light and dark in my photography, capturing an animal’s behaviour and a sense of the environment they’re in,” Emma adds.

“This image was taken on Skomer Island in Pembrokeshire, Wales. I love how intense the sunset is behind the puffin. It was a really beautiful and strong sunset with a gorgeous shade of orange. I like how it bathed the puffin in blue shadow as we were slipping into the blue hour. It was such a serene moment, and I’m happy I managed to capture it,” she says.
