I have lived with the impression that John Lewis is one of our prestigious establishments. My recent experience is a negative one and leads me to believe that I am of no value to them, and, at 89, in their eyes, I am not worth the effort, not even to warrant a phone call.

For my birthday in June 2024 my family purchased for me a Smeg TSF01 two slice toaster, Emerald Green, costing £170. I was about to replace a Russell Hobbs toaster which cost £20 10 years ago for a new £25 Russell Hobbs from Morrisons.

I had seen the Smeg toaster while visiting my daughter and thought it would go well in my relatively new kitchen. No price was revealed and I did not know that it needs two actions to toast bread.
