Roses can add great variety to the garden
Yorkshire Evening Post
|June 10, 2026
Roses! From late autumn and throughout the winter months they stand in a deciduous state offering little attraction other than the potential a well pruned and mulched group can in their bed.

But the question occasionally arises, are they worth the growing space?
Down the centuries and today the answer is a resounding ‘yes’.
The negative winter impact of a large group devoid of growth can be overcome by placing a single rose amongst other plant species that are evergreen and different in form - mixed border planting no less!
