No extra jail time for crossbow man after remand year

A man who threatened police with a crossbow during a three-hour standoff has been given a suspended sentence - after spending more than a year on remand.

Simon Munro, who suffers from schizophrenia, had to be persuaded to drop the weapon as officers surrounded the property in Allerton Bywater in October last year.

He was freed this week after a judge at Leeds Crown Court opted to suspend the inevitable custodial sentence.

Munro, who turned 42 this week, admitted a charge of affray, but delays over psychiatric assessments meant he was kept locked up at HMP Leeds. The court previously heard that Munro armed himself with the deadly weapon after an argument with his partner on October 22 last year.
