World Pear Day - December 6-brings a burst of flavour and fun to fruit-lovers everywhere.

The global celebration highlights the pear’s sweet charm and its place in kitchens around the world.

Pears have a long history in the UK, introduced around 995 AD and first properly cultivated by the Romans.

Today, the Conference pear accounts for more than 90 per cent of commercial UK production, though historical documents mention other varieties and pears being used as boundary markers as early as 1086.
