Climate crisis affects us all

I can't help but notice that the politicians who use negatively emotive language that dehumanises migrants and who seem to be promoting a perverted and harmful vision of patriotism, are often the same ones encouraging denial about our dangerously warming climate.

Don't they see that there is a connection?

We can all see that our climate is changing even here in the UK. Dangerous heat and serious drought this summer follows flooding. Extreme weather is getting more 'normal'. The food security that we in this country take for granted, is diminishing.

Commenting on data published in the last couple of weeks by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Tom Lancaster, a land, food and farming analyst at the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) said: "Farmers are now counting the costs of climate change, with over a billion pounds knocked off arable farm incomes following the extreme wet winter that we saw in 2024. This lost income hits the sector just as the same farmers are having to contend with a record breaking warm and dry spring, that is likely to hit this year's harvest too.
