Art exhibition is celebrating Caribbean craftsmanship

Leeds-based Caribbean artist Helen France has created a free-to-attend exhibition which spotlights the making of clay pots within Caribbean culture.

Aunt Dolly's Clay Pots is a tribute to Helen's aunt, Dolly Pinney, who was from the Caribbean island of Nevis.

Throughout her lifetime Dolly, described by Helen as "a trendsetter in every way", created sustainable clay pots and taught members of her community - including Helen - how to make them.

Helen, who received an MBE in 2005 for services to art and the Yorkshire community, said: "From the clay she made pots, and from that she earned a living.

"In the Caribbean, you don't pay to learn the skill, it's handed down, so she taught the ladies who made a living as well."
