Cleverley was appointed by Argyle on a three-year contract and Lathrope, who had two spells as a player at Torquay United, was keen on a return to the Westcountry and a role at Argyle

“He didn’t need to ask me twice,” said Lathrope. “I was actually on holiday with my family and he made me aware about it. I love this area of the country, I have been down here for a lot of years. I had some great times and good memories.

“I really enjoyed working with the gaffer over the last 18 months and I was always going to be fully behind whatever decision he made.

“When he asked my opinion, there was absolutely nothing but positive stuff that went back the other way. I can speak for the rest of the staff as well - Matt Bevans, Chris Douglas. It felt like the perfect fit, the right club for what the gaffer was looking for, and what we were all looking for, and just really pleased to be here now”
