Wotton says Gulls looking to 'put right' last season's heartache

TORQUAY United manager Paul Wotton says he thinks there has been a line drawn under last season's disappointment missing out on promotion to the National League by just two goals, followed by defeat in the playoff - but the players who experienced that disappointment have learned from it.

It has been a summer of good recruitment for the Gulls, with the focus mainly on the midfield, which was at times a problem area last season. Now, with Matt Worthington, Callum Dolan, Sonny Blu Lo-Everton and Manashe Sundire all in the squad, the problem will be a different one for the manager.

Indeed, most fans could probably write down 10 of today's starting 11 already. The question mark is, who will start alongside the new captain Worthington?

"We have no choice to start afresh," said Wotton at his first press conference of the season on Thursday. "Has there been a line drawn under it? I think so.

"But then you can look at it a different way as well the players who were here last year, they didn't like that feeling. I didn't like that feeling of missing out on the league title firstly and then having such a disappointment against Boreham Wood. There's a feeling of putting that right, which is great."
