A selection of silver and silver gilt items
Silver has rarely sparkled as brightly as it does today. With prices soaring to some of their highest levels in years, auctioneers are reporting a rush of interest from sellers and collectors alike. For those sitting on unwanted silver cutlery, tea sets or heirloom jewellery, the question isn’t just whether to sell, but where? And increasingly, the answer seems to be at auction.
Silver has staged a remarkable comeback this year. Once overshadowed by gold, it's now enjoying renewed attention as demand rises from both investors and industry. Auction houses have seen a surge in consignments, from ornate Victorian tableware to Art Deco candlesticks and even damaged items with collectible appeal.
"People are realising that now is an excellent time to sell," says Edward Whitton, Auctioneer and Valuer. "Collectors are actively looking for quality silver pieces, and they're willing to pay well above scrap value for something with craftsmanship or history."
