Wrexham boss faces transfer decisions
Western Mail
|January 20, 2026
WREXHAM could face a hectic week on and off the field after confirming the departure of club captain James McClean.
-
The Republic of Ireland international has been a key figure for the Red Dragons since joining in August 2023. However, it was announced on Saturday that the 36-year-old would sign for Derry City following the mutual termination of his contract.
A lack of game-time and McClean’s desire to end his career with his hometown club are understood to be the main reasons for the move.
News of his exit emerged in the wake of Wrexham's 2-1 home defeat to relegation-threatened Norwich at the weekend, bringing an end to their four-game winning streak in the Championship.
