WALES head coach Steve Tandy has appointed Harlequins boss Danny Wilson as one of his assistants.

- STEFFAN THOMAS

He took charge of Wales' forwards on the recent tour of Japan when Matt Sherratt was interim head coach and has strong connections with Welsh rugby.

The 49-year-old led Cardiff to European Challenge Cup glory in 2018 and has held prominent coaching roles with Wales U20s, the Dragons and the Scarlets. Wilson has also been in charge of Glasgow Warriors and been an assistant coach, working under Gregor Townsend with Scotland alongside Tandy.

Tandy officially started his role as head coach of Wales on September 1 and his first job will be putting together a backroom team in time for the autumn internationals this November where they will take on Argentina, Japan, New Zealand and South Africa.

Wilson will be one of his assistant coaches, although it has not been confirmed exactly which role he will take. Cardiff boss Sherratt is also a strong contender to be appointed attack coach.

Tandy said: "I'm delighted to welcome Danny permanently to the coaching team.
