What next for Ramsey after Mexico adventure ends with heartbreak?
Western Mail
|November 06, 2025
ARON Ramsey's future is once again uncertain after his ill-fated move to Mexico appeared to come to a heartbreaking end.
The Wales captain is understood to have quit Pumas UNAM, although an official announcement has yet to be made.
It comes four weeks after the disappearance of the family's beloved dog, Halo, a devastating situation that has left him, his wife Colleen and their young children “haunted”.
The couple have spoken publicly about the ordeal online and have suggested they were misled over elements of the dog's disappearance, deepening their distress and prompting Ramsey’s return home.
It leaves questions over what comes next, so here, we take a look...
World Cup dream still driving him
RAMSEY has been clear in that he wants to play in next year’s tournament in North America.
Speaking earlier this year, he said the chance to lead Wales at another World Cup remained “a massive motivation” and that he still believed he could play at the highest level if he managed his body properly.
“I still feel I have a lot to give,” he said in the summer.
“My aim is to be part of the squad for the World Cup. That's the target.”
Wales' route to that tournament likely now runs through the playoffs after defeat to Belgium last month, but qualification remains a realistic prospect.
For that to happen, Craig Bellamy will need Ramsey fit, focused and playing regular football.
The MLS question
RAMSEY’S move to Mexico was seen by some as a first step towards North American football ahead of the World Cup.
Many pointed to Gareth Bale’s switch to LAFC before Qatar 2022 as an example of how playing in MLS can help manage a veteran player's fitness and demands.
