TANDY PUT ON ALERT AS LOUIS STAKES NO.15 CLAIM
Western Mail
|December 29, 2025
LOUIS Rees-Zammit is ready to stake his claim for the Wales fullback berth.
The 24-year-old flyer was again handed the No.15 shirt for Bristol Bears at the weekend and responded with two tries as his side recorded a 36-27 comeback victory against Newcastle Red Bulls.
Bears director of rugby Pat Lam now plans to keep Rees-Zammit in the role a move which will no doubt interest Wales head coach Steve Tandy.
Blair Murray has cemented himself into the Welsh No.15 shirt, but while his attacking flair is a key weapon, he has sometimes struggled in aerial duels.
Lam admits that he always intended to deploy Rees-Zammit at fullback after he returned to rugby from the NFL.
"Louis has the ability to be a world-class fullback," he said after Saturday's victory.
"I know a lot of people see him as a wing but it was always my intention to 100 per cent play him as a fullback.
