Six police officers facing misconduct hearing after three killed in car crash

Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) examined Gwent Police's response to the missing person reports made by family members between March 4 and 5, including if they were appropriately risk-assessed, reviewed, and resourced.
-
An announcement by the IOPC yesterday, which came after its lengthy investigation, alleges that some officers failed to carry out basic inquiries, including house searches, after the missing person reports.
They have concluded six officers should face disciplinary proceedings, four of whom the IOPC say have a case to answer for gross misconduct.
This includes the police sergeant who was responsible for the supervision and oversight of the missing person investigation during March 5.
The IOPC said the sergeant has “a case to answer for gross misconduct for their supervision of the missing persons inquiry”.
A police constable is also accused of gross misconduct for allegedly failing to carry out basic inquiries, including recording and sharing of information.
Two other constables were deemed to have a case to answer for gross misconduct after allegedly failing to conduct house searches as per Gwent Police policy and then giving dishonest accounts to their supervisor and IOPC investigators.
One of the officers was criminally investigated for alleged offences of misconduct in public office and perverting the course of justice but the IOPC said it did not find sufficient evidence to make a referral to the Crown Prosecution Service.
