Reforms aim to help clear court backlog of 78,000 cases

To be completed in Wales and England's crown courts in a huge backlog potentially meaning some defendants facing trials for lesser offences wouldn't be facing those trials for years.

The Ministry of Justice said on Tuesday afternoon that no decision has yet been made.
A spokesperson for the MoJ said: “No final decision has been taken by government.
“We have been clear there is a crisis in the courts, causing pain and anguish to victims - with 78,000 cases in the backlog and rising - which will require bold action to put right.”
