Henson leads tributes to stalwart of Welsh rugby

GAVIN HENSON has led tributes to former Welsh Rugby Union board director and secretary of the Welsh Youth Rugby Union, Roger Watcyn Thomas, who died at the age of 86.

Mr Thomas passed away at his home in Tredegar on Monday, August 25, having been a lifelong servant of Welsh youth rugby. His most prominent role was as honorary secretary of the Welsh Youth Rugby Union.

In his early twenties he had helped to establish Glanhowy Youth, before getting involved in the management of North Mon Youth.

He went on to spend 37 years on the Welsh Youth Rugby Union committee, being assistant secretary for 10 years before acting as honorary secretary from 1998 until the organisation was disbanded in 2004.
