Bank's investment helps to safeguard thousands of jobs

THE British Business Bank has ramped up its funding support to Welsh businesses with it backing 900 firms for the first time in its last financial year.

In its 2025 Impact Report the economic development bank of the UK Government said in 2024/25 its investment in Welsh firms, through debt and equity, helped to safeguard 10,800 existing jobs. The investment activity is also expected to help create a further 900 new jobs over the lifetime of the finance.
It added that this is expected to support firms generate an additional £550m equivalent to £200m in economic output to the Welsh economy.
One of the main lending routes for the bank is through its £130m Investment Fund for Wales (IFW), which has three elements in small debt, large debt and equity. Each element is run by fund managers, following what were competitive tenders.
