A dedicated mental health advocate has been recognised with a British Empire Medal for her efforts supporting vulnerable people in her community.

Julie Matthews, Chief Executive Officer and founder of Chard-based charity Watch CIO, received the award at a ceremony held on Thursday, October 16, at The Newt in Bruton. The medal was presented by the Lord Lieutenant of Somerset, Mohammed Saddiq, alongside five other recipients.
Miss Matthews was included in the King's Birthday Honours list, announced on June 14, for her services to mental health in Somerset.
The award follows national recognition for Watch CIO, which was highly commended at the BBC Make a Difference Awards earlier this month.
