West Mayor: Railway reopening cash confirmation 'days away'
Western Daily Press
|June 21, 2025
GOVERNMENT confirmation of the reopening of the Portishead Railway could be just days away, West of England Metro Mayor Helen Godwin has said.
-
Ms Godwin, pictured inset, appeared on ITV’s West Country Debate on Thursday, June 19. Asked by host Lucy McDaid if the railway line would be reopened, Ms Godwin said: “We are hoping to get confirmation of that in the next few days.” She added: “As far as I know, yes.”
While some preparatory work has been done by North Somerset Council, the government still has not approved the full business case for the long-anticipated project. But North Somerset Council leader Mike Bell is also confident that approval is imminent.
