Tree charity celebrates 25 years of restoring moor woodland

A DEVON charity has unveiled an ambitious plan to plant 10 million more trees on Dartmoor by 2050 in a major step towards tackling the climate and nature crises.
-
Moor Trees marked its 25th anniversary with an afternoon tea at Buckfast Abbey on June 27, where partners, supporters and funders were thanked for their contribution to its success and achievements.
The charity used the event to ask guests to embrace its vision for a wilder Dartmoor in the next quarter of a century, with woodlands that form part of a mosaic of restored natural habitats breathing new life back into the moorland landscape.
Jenny Isaac, chair of trustees at Moor Trees, said: "It is essential that we all inspire people to take action now to ensure a more nature-rich Dartmoor. Moor Trees wants to see a further 10 million trees take root in the next 25 years and we're doing this for nature, for children and young people who are growing up in a world with less and less wildlife.
"Each woodland recreated is a legacy to be proud of. We can all, individually and together, make a difference now to help mitigate the impacts of the climate emergency and the devastating loss of biodiversity."
