McCullum keen to stay amid chaos
Western Daily Press
|June 30, 2026
RENDON McCullum has no intention of following Ben Stokes out of the door after revealing he tried to dissuade England's Test captain from retiring.
Stokes ended a captivating career at international level on Monday as England lost to New Zealand, whose 160-run win at Trent Bridge sealed a come-from-behind 2-1 triumph in the Rothesay Series.
After the sugar rush drama of Sunday, Trent Bridge witnessed the comedown, with disciplined bowling and some terrific run-outs sealing victory for the tourists.
Emilio Gay (10) edged Nathan Smith behind and Joe Root (18) was run out by Henry Nicholls.
Jamie Smith and Gus Atkinson dug in with England six down, but the latter eventually went lbw to Mitch Santner for 19, and the end was not long in coming after that.
Jofra Archer (2) was caught behind soon after lunch, Josh Tongue (2) was run out by Santner, and Jamie Smith (60) was finally caught in the deep by namesake Nathan off Santner to end matters.
