'Hate speech' protest call for Hopkins show

CALLS have been made for a boycott of Weston’s Grand Pier due to the venue hosting an event by controversial right-wing personality Katie Hopkins.
Billed as part of the political commentator’s “stand-up comedy” tour, Hopkins, right, is due to perform at the attraction on Wednesday.
The show has drawn criticism from some residents, who have rebuked the venue for hosting the 50-year-old, who was reported to police earlier this month for mocking disabled people online.
“Oppose Katie Hopkins’ hate speech tour,” a social media post calling for a boycott of both the live show and Grand Pier stated. “Please join us for a peaceful vigil near the pier entrance. Let her know we do not share her inflammatory and divisive views.”
Social media posts calling for the boycott have been met with split opinions, with some backing the initiative while others cite freedom of speech as a reason to let the event go ahead.
