Collapse of 3D-printed part caused plane crash

A PLANE crashed in Gloucestershire after a 3D-printed part softened and collapsed during the landing approach, a report has found.

The Cozy Mk IV light aircraft was on final approach to the runway at Gloucestershire Airport following an “uneventful local flight” when the pilot advanced the throttle and realised the engine had suffered a complete loss of power, the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) said in a report.
He managed to fly over a road and a line of bushes on the airfield boundary, but landed short and struck the instrument landing system (ILS) localiser before coming to rest at the side of the structure.
