A 'dream come true' as Aamilah makes history

GLOUCESTER teenager Aamilah Aswat made history at Kempton this week as the first ever Black woman to ride in a jumps race in Britain.
Aswat was aboard the Kim Bailey and Mat Nicholls-trained Guchen in the JCB Handicap Hurdle, finishing fifth of 10.
The 19-year-old learned to ride at Gloucester’s St James’ City Farm and joined the inaugural Riding A Dream Academy scholarship programme in 2021-22 (where she was sponsored by The Jockey Club), which supports young people from diverse ethnic communities into horse racing.
After completing the programme, she competed in the Magnolia Cup at Goodwood this year following a spell at the British Racing School.
