City-centre project facing changes amid rise in costs

Below, plans for a lifting bridge linking Boscawen Park with Newham also had to be changed

AFTER plans for a showpiece bridge in Truro were scaled back and a pedestrian bridge promised for the city was scrapped, the Truro Town Deal scheme has received another financial blow.

Proposed improvements to Lemon Quay have also proved to be unaffordable.

The Truro Town Deal Board said last year that the value of £23.6 million it received from the Government to revitalise the city had fallen by a third in real terms due to the effects of inflation and the cost-of-living crisis; this position is only likely to have worsened in the succeeding year.

That led to the removal last year of plans for a bridge linking Town Quay on Morlaix Avenue to the Garras Wharf car park.
