Car park go-ahead for 'eyesore' site in town
Wells Journal
|September 18, 2025
A DERELICT building and an “untidy” site in Shepton Mallet is to be demolished to pave the way for a new 40-space car park.
-
The site at 14 Commercial Road (pictured inset) was formerly the home of a cafe, as well as a garage and vehicle workshop before both businesses closed their doors many years ago.
Local property developer Pat Bridgeman has secured the go-ahead from Somerset Council to build the car park which will operate via a permit system with periodic patrols and will accommodate 40 vehicles and include cycle parking and electric vehicle charging points.
