Buckingham is bookies' favourite for Cardiff job

FORMER Oxford United manager Des Buckingham has leapfrogged others to the top of the bookmakers' odds list to take over as the next Cardiff City manager.

Bournemouth assistant Tommy Elphick emerged as a shock favourite at the weekend, seemingly out of nowhere, and remains near the top of the list.

However, it is the former U’s boss who now leads the odds race, ahead of Elphick and interim manager Aaron Ramsey, who are both priced at 4/1.

But Buckingham, who is now priced at evens, is the current leading candidate, if the bookies are to be believed.

The 40-year-old was sacked by Oxford last December and has been out of work since. He led the U’s to promotion out of League One last year.
