Vietnam's technology sector deepens global steps
Vietnam Investment Review
|April 13, 2026
With the policies to develop strategic technology products, Vietnam is deepening its participation in the global value chain.
-
Hoang Anh Tu, deputy director of the Department of Science and Technology under the Ministry of Science and Technology, talked to VIR’s Thuy Nguyen about the prospects that lay ahead.
With six strategic technology products now prioritised, what roadmap and mechanisms will the Ministry of Science and Technology (MST) follow to ensure resources for the early formation of leading enterprises?
The MST will implement a specific roadmap and special mechanisms to maximise resource allocation and foster leading enterprises. To ensure effectiveness, the ministry is applying new management and support mechanisms.
We do direct ordering and task assignment mechanism. Accordingly, the MST leads the evaluation and selection of leading technology corporations and enterprises to collaborate with research institutes and universities to carry out tasks through a direct ordering system.
We are establishing a specialised task force headed by a leader from the MST to directly supervise, coordinate inter-sectoral efforts, and promptly address difficulties for projects.
Projects are also being developed to implement controlled testing mechanisms for new products that are not yet regulated by law, creating maximum opportunities for businesses to innovate.
The allocation of scientific research funding from the state budget will be prioritised, accounting for at least 15 per cent of the total budget expenditure on science and technology to support these products.
Have any specific orders been placed yet, and when businesses can expect their first orders from the public sector?
