Vietnamese factory floors are the new climate frontier
Vietnam Investment Review

Leading investors are already setting new benchmarks.
-
The Lego Group’s $1.3 billion factory at Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) in Binh Duong, opened in 2025, commits to 100 per cent renewable energy through integrated solar, battery storage, and a DPPA with VSIP. In the north, Deep C Industrial Zones is investing in renewable energy infrastructure for their tenant base. IP competitiveness is increasingly defined not only by land and logistics, but by energy, water, and environmental performance.
The scale of demand reinforces this. Samsung’s manufacturing presence is unmatched: six factories, a research and development centre in Hanoi, and over $23 billion in cumulative investment producing roughly half of every Galaxy smartphone sold worldwide. SK, LG, Hyundai, Hyosung, and their South Korean peers are actively pursuing renewable energy credits and green power sourcing across their Vietnam operations. Energy, water, and waste management will define the next generation of IP performance, coupled with AI and digitalisation advances.
A powerful new driver is emerging: AI and digital infrastructure. Vietnam’s data centre market was valued at $1 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach $3.18 billion by 2031.
South Korean companies are at the forefront. Samsung C&T signed an MoU with CMC to develop a $1.3 billion hyperscale data centre in Ho Chi Minh City. KT signed a $94.6 million partnership with Viettel for an AI-ready data centre and GPU server cluster.
Meanwhile, a consortium of Microsoft, G42, FPT, and VinaCapital has proposed a $2 billion facility, and Google is reported to be planning a hyperscale centre near Ho Chi Minh City, potentially operational by 2027.
The paradox is immediate. These same companies operate under RE100 pledges making data centres themselves major demand anchors for clean power. Digital growth cannot be decoupled from the availability of low-carbon electricity. The green transition and the digital transition are inseparable.
