Local pharma players adjust growth drivers
Vietnam Investment Review
|March 16, 2026
While Vietnam's major pharma players are cooperating with global firms to boost their reach and capacity, the current geopolitical situation may slow progress in the shortand medium-term.
Imexpharm is focusing on a strategy of investing deeply in production capacity according to EU-GMP standards and promoting international cooperation models, taking them as key drivers for future growth.
Sharing the vision for development, Tran Thi Dao, general director of Imexpharm, stated, "With pioneering position in the industry, we are committed to building a solid growth foundation based on rigorous quality control, responsible innovation, and a commitment to delivering long-term value to all stakeholders."
Alongside the domestic market, Imexpharm continues to expand its international presence with 28 marketing authorisations in Europe for 11 products, gradually increasing its presence in over 40 countries and territories, she added.
In late 2025, a significant milestone was reached when Imexpharm launched its first generic antibiotic - a new-generation antibiotic meeting EU-GMP standards - in Vietnam.
Pharma expert Hai Ngo said, "From a market perspective, this is seen as a signal that the industry is accelerating its shift towards a growth model based on quality, technology, and in-depth investment, rather than relying on extensive growth as in the previous period. The move will enable the company to expand its value chain and increase competitiveness."
In addition, Imexpharm is strengthening cooperation with major global pharmaceutical corporations such as Sandoz, Sano-fi-Aventis, Pharmascience, and Genuone Sciences. The latest share transfer of Imexpharm between SK Group and Livzon in 2025 is expected to open up opportunities for Imexpharm to receive technology transfer and access leading pharmaceutical manufacturing standards in the region and on par with international standards.
