Legal advances sought for new AI law
Vietnam Investment Review
|May 25, 2026
While legislation on AI is opening new opportunities for businesses and investors, legal advances are being sought to make it align with international practices.
At a meeting with Vietnam’s Ministry of Science and Technology (MST) on May 20, Manik Saha, managing director of SAP Labs East Asia, said that Labs EA Vietnam is currently one of SAP’s key research and development (R&D) centres in East Asia, supporting the group’s global AI-first strategy.
“SAP is developing AI skills training for engineers in Vietnam, aiming for 100 per cent of our engineers to possess AI skills by the end of 2026; and also hopes to partner with Vietnam in developing related businesses, training technology personnel, and building an innovation ecosystem,” he said.
According to the MST, Vietnam is developing national strategies on AI and digital transformation, focusing on encouraging research and application in universities and research institutes; expanding international cooperation in AI and digital transformation; and supporting businesses in applying it to solve practical problems and improve productivity.
The ministry proposed that SAP expand its investment in AI, strategic technologies, and technology workforce training in Vietnam to accelerate innovation and digital transformation.
Since the enforcement of the Law on Artificial Intelligence in March, the country has witnessed growing attention among international businesses. At the forum, major tech corporations such as Meta, Google, Salesforce, and Cohere also met with the MST to discuss AI generation, governance, digital infrastructure development, and the potential to support the innovation ecosystem in Vietnam.
