Coupled with a rise in processing and manufacturing activities, the confidence of businesses in the domestic economy remains active.

- By Thanh Thanh

According to the National Statistics Office (NSO) last week, Vietnam’s industrial production in the first five months of this year has kept its positive growth trend.

The index for industrial production (IIP) in May is estimated to have climbed nearly 3.3 per cent on-month and 8.8 per cent on-year.

The IIP in the first five months is estimated to have expanded 9.1 per cent as compared to the same period last year, also the highest increase in the first five months of a year since 2022. The IIP ascended 9.5 per cent on-year for the processing and manufacturing industry; 9.5 per cent for the waste and wastewater management and treatment industry; 7.6 per cent for the electricity production and distribution industry; and 5.5 per cent for the mining industry.

At last week’s governmental conference on Vietnam’s socioeconomic performance held in Hanoi, it was reported that industrial production has been recovering both qualitatively and quantitatively. The economy grew 8.02 per cent in 2025 as compared to the previous year. The QI growth rate came in at 7.83 per cent, the highest since 2011, but still lower than the target of 9.1 per cent.
