When technology entrepreneur Sandy Lerner bought Virginia's Ayrshire Farm in 1996, the early 20th-century manor house had been uninhabited for roughly a decade. The pipes had burst, the basement was flooded with water, and the ceiling’s crown moldings were cracked and crumbling.
