TOFFEES MOVING UP IN STYLE FROM DROP ZONE

- SIMON MULLOCK

Safer now, Moyesie? You Beto, you better you bet!

THE irony shouldn't be lost on David Moyes that, while he's gone back to a club that's been in a permanent state of crisis for the last five years, he has more reasons to be cheerful than Ruben Amorim.

The Everton manager was disappointed at how his team let Amorim's struggling United off the hook after building up a two-goal lead that didn't do justice to the level of control they had exerted in the first 71 minutes.

His frustration was compounded by referee Andrew Madley overturning his decision to award the home side an injury-time penalty on the advice of VAR official Matthew Donohue after initially deciding that Harry Maguire had dragged down Ashley Young.

imageMadley changed his mind after seeing on the monitor that Matthijs de Ligt had grabbed a handful of Young's shirt rather than his centre-back partner.

Howard Webb has got a helluva job explaining this one away.

But, in the privacy of the dressing room, Moyes will have pointed a few fingers of blame towards his own players.

First-half goals from Beto and Abdoulaye Doucoure had United floundering.
